Lindy Weekend Planner: Souper Bowl, Letters to Gov.
Before watching the Super Bowl on February 3, check out some local events, including LHS Souper Bowl, Adopt a House's Letter to Governor Blitz, Camp Bulldog and UNIQLO warm clothing donations to Sandy victims and LML's Valentines for Vets.
Another week of cold winter weather is winding down for Lindenhurst, and Super Bowl weekend - February 1 to 3 - is knocking at our door.
If you're looking for something to do and ways to help your neighbors and give back to the community, then we have a few local suggestions.
Lindy Local Events
Senator Charles Fuschillo has arranged to bring the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Mobile Legal Help Center to the Copiague Library, located at 50 Deauville Boulevard in Copiague, on Friday, February 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide free legal assistance to local residents directly affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Lindenhurst High School is hosting the Souper Bowl of Caring Charity Cook-Off Fundraiser on , from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Local restaurants, community groups and faculty will donate plenty of chili, soup and homemade breads for attendees to eat. The event is free to attend, though all donations will be given to the Sandy Relief Fund.
On Saturday, February 2, Adopt a House will be collecting letters to mail en masse to send New York State's United States senators and governor. The non-profit organization is asking residents to help reach its goal of 5,000 letters to send to Governor Andrew Cuomo and Senators Chucker Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. According to Adopt a House, the letter blitz will "deal specifically with the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program."

Adopt a House will be in Lindenhurst with Camp Bulldog and UNIQLO at Harding Avenue Elementary School and at the Knights of Columbus-OLPH Council #794 on South Broadway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. UNIQLO, a global clothing retailer, and Camp Bulldog will deliver warm clothing donations to hundreds of individuals and families affected by Sandy at Harding Avenue Elementary School and the Lindenhurst Knights of Columbus this Saturday, too.

Other Local Events
On Friday, February 1, at 8 p.m., The St. James Players will perform Sunday in the Park with George at their theater in the Babylon Methodist Church. Tickets cost $18 general admission, and $15 for seniors and students.
If you don't mind venturing out in the cold, then the ice skating rink at Tanger Outlets at The Arches is open and readey for skaters. A live DJ will keep the beats going Friday, February 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Join the West Babylon Main Street Organization during its meeting at the West Babylon Public Library on Saturday, February 2, at 9 a.m. The group will discuss ways to enhance the quality of life in the community.
Children of all ages are invited to the Deer Park Public Library for a walk-in craft session on Saturday, February 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No registration is required. Children younger than 11 years old must remain with an adult. Each child needs to be present and show his/her Deer Park Library Card to participate.
West Islip Boy Scout Troop 179 is hosting an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes in the cafeteria. The dinner costs $5, and will take place on Saturday, February 2, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Raffle tickets and 50/50 chances will be sold, as well.
In-Style Salon and Spa in West Islip is selling purple hair extensions for $15 in honor of P.S. I Love You Day. All proceeds will be donated to the charity to help support suicide prevention. The fundraiser lasts through February 8.
