The following message from Benatar was shared with Lindenhurst Patch by Westbury Theatre officials before the holidays about the concert:

"Hey everyone. Spyder and I wanted to let you  know that due to our previous touring schedule, we were unable to participate in any of the earlier Hurricane Sandy benefits. Nonetheless, our thoughts and prayers have always been with our friends, families and fans all over Long Island and the surrounding New York area, who were impacted by the storm. There's still so much work to be done, and Spyder and I wanted to do something to help. So here it is: We'll be performing at the NYCB theatre at Westbury on Friday, January 25, for a benefit concert. We're hoping to bring everyone together for some rock and roll, and raise some money for all of the victims of Sandy. As you know I was raised in Lindenhurst, one of the hardest hit towns on Long Island, so I'm especially happy to be able to give back to a place that gave so much to me. We wish all of you healing thoughts, love and patience during this trying time! Lindy rocks...Sandy sucks!”

Benatar also told McClatchy Newspapers/GoErie.com this week ahead of the concert from her California home: "It was just insanity. I have family there, and they had eight feet of water in their basement. They sent me these pictures, and it's just heartbreaking to see all this stuff piled up in the street. It's just a nightmare....When I saw what happened to the shore, I almost fainted."

She added, "I want to do what I can in my small way....I wanted to keep it local....Seeing all of this devastation was so sad, because I know all of these people have such good hearts. They don't deserve this."
