Lindy Blogger Discusses Raising Homes in LI Coastal Communities

'While driving through [Lindenhurst], I found some homes that were in the process of being raised. It's interesting to see these new elevations in relationship to the surrounding community,' says Lindy native Daniel Horn.

Lindenhurst native and Patch blogger Daniel Horn recently posted about the raising of homes in Lindenhurst and other coastal communities in a post-Hurricane Sandy world.

"Right after Superstorm Sandy hit the area, a group of us started a committee called Operation Resilient Long Island (ORLI). The committee exists as a collaborative response to Sandy, founded to explore and develop methods to aid local communities by finding long-term resilient building and design solutions," wrote Horn, who's an architecture student at NYIT.

"We feel the best way we can help is by organizing and hosting a global design ideas competition which will focus on the effect raising home elevations will have on coastal communities," he continued. "Details can be found at our website at www.3Ccompetition.org."
