Patrick Boylan Memorial Softball Tournament on Saturday

Organizer, and friend of the late Boylan, Bob Weiden said the "generous softball players who've come to this tournament year after year will be acknowledged."

Boylan was a 17-year veteran of the FDNY, and served at Ground Zero on 9/11 with Ladder Company Seven, where nine firefighters were killed that day.

He later died later died in 2002 at the age of 40 of apparent cardiac arrest during surgery for a varicose vein that was recommended by doctors well before 9/11, according to reports, and that he put off until well afterward.

Before his death Weiden said Boylan delayed his own surgery to help others.

The Patrick Boylan Memorial Softball Tournament was named in honor of him, and raises money for Lindenhurst families in need.
