Lindy Happenings: Closings, Blood Drive, Meeting

Highlights for this Columbus Day weekend, October 5 to 8, include closings, a KoC Blood Drive and a LOOM meeting, plus a fundraiser for the daughter of one of the LFD chiefs, Lindenhurst Oktoberfest and Homecoming and a concert at the LML.

BACCA Performance This Weekend
There's a theatrical performance on the agenda for the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst.

The Nerd, Larry Shue's theatrical comedy presented by Stagelight Entertainment, will run at 8 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday, October 4 to 6, at the Center.

Homecoming Festivities This Weekend
This weekend is Homecoming Weekend for Lindenhurst.

The festivities kick off on Friday afternoon at the Lindenhurst Middle School Field at 1:30 p.m. with a Pep Rally for the LMS.

On Friday night the Lindenhurst High School Pep Rally begins at 7 p.m. at the LMS Field.

On Saturday the Homecoming Parade starts at 1 p.m. on Wellwood Avenue, leading to the LMS Field for the game versus Ward Melville that begins at 3 p.m.

Oktoberfest This Weekend
Presented by the Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Rotary Club, the annual Oktoberfest is set for this weekend, rain or shine, from Friday to Sunday, October 5 to 7.

Friday festivities run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and feature pay-one-price midway rides, games and food.

Saturday festivities run from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. All midway rides are $2 that day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday festivities feature the Street Festival, which takes place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. along North and South Wellwood Avenue in the heart of downtown Lindenhurst Village.

Kan Jam for Kayla on Sunday
A Kan Jam tournament fundraiser is set for Sunday to help raise money for medical equipment for Kayla Vinciguerra, who's the 15-year-old daughter of Lindenhurst Fire Department Third Assistant Chief Paul Vinciguerra.

She has a rare disorder called Dandy-Walkers Syndrome.

The fundraiser will take place at Firemen's Park Pavilion starting at 1 p.m.

It's $50 for each team of two ($25 per person) for Kan Jam, a flying disc game played with a flying disc and two cans in which you deflect the disc into the can.

Best two out of three moves on, and prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams.

Refreshments will be available, and there's free general admission. 

Concert on Sunday
The Vendettas will play at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library on Sunday.

The concert will start at the LML at 2 p.m.
