LINDENHURST, NY — Lindenhurst has a new mayor and she's a local fourth grader at Albany Avenue Elementary School.

Junior Mayor Pia Parikh was "elected" to her position after being one of the winners of the Loving Lindenhurst contest by creating an Everything Lindy puzzle.

Each of the puzzle pieces represented something Pia loves about Lindenhurst, including the library, her school, and Winter on Wellwood, a holiday celebration that coincides with the town's annual holiday parade.

It didn't take long for Pia to embrace her new duties as mayor.

On April 16, she attended a Village Board meeting and opened it by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. She also followed along with the meeting’s agenda, shared some of her favorite things in Lindenhurst, and made the motion to close the meeting, a village board rep said.
