Man Killed After Car Strikes His Electric Scooter In North Lindy: Cops

The man was fatally struck, police say.

NORTH LINDENHURST, NY — A man is dead, after a car struck him while he was operating an electric scooter in North Lindenhurst on Saturday, Suffolk County Police said.

At about 2:45 p.m., a 56-year-old West Babylon man was driving a 2008 Ford E250 van northbound on Straight Path, at the intersection of Wellwood Avenue, when his vehicle struck Shawn Gavigan, who was riding an electric scooter, crossing Wellwood Avenue eastbound from Heathcote Road.

Gavigan, 67, of Lindenhurst, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip
where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Ford was not injured, police said.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
