Many Support New York Law Opting-Out of the Common Core
Locals rally around a bill to withdraw from the national Race to the Top and Common Core initiative. How do you feel about it?

At a rally to celebrate a bill intended to withdraw New York State from the national Common Core and Race to the Top initiatives was held on Tuesday and dozens of people showed up to support it, including Shoreham parent Jeanine Cozzetti, founder of a Facebook group "Parents and Teachers Against the Common Core" (PT-ACC).

We asked readers on Lindenhurst Patch's Facebook page and on the site how they felt about the law and whether students were tested too much in school. Here is what a few of them said:

Edward G Kamieniak Jr.: I support opting out of common core. Education needs to be localized not a big central power

Tom Leyland: Thank the Lord they are opting out....
Lisa Gillen Kmiotek: This makes my night!!!
Ilene Meister: Yes. When we were young, 60's and 70's, we didn't have all that testing and all of us turned out fine.
We'd also like to continue the conversation here: How do you feel about it? Is there too much standardized testing in our schools? Would you like to see the Common Core repealed?
