Mayor: Mandatory Evacuation South of Montauk Now in Effect

Lindenhurst Mayor says the Village will be alerting residents via fire department trucks and a reverse 911 call ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

There's now a madatory evacuation in effect for Lindenhurst residents living South of Montauk Highway ahead of Hurricane Sandy - aka Frankenstorm.

That's according to Mayor Tom Brennan who spoke with Lindenhurst Patch just before noontime today.

"A mandatory evacuation is now in place," he said. "We'll have Lindenhurst Fire Department trucks out in the next hour or so to alert residents."

The Village is seeking to get a reverse 911 call from Suffolk County to go out to the affected resident living South of Montauk.

The mayor, after speaking with Lindenhurst Schools Superintendent Richard Nathan this morning, also indicated the Lindenhurst High School will be opened on Sunday as a temporary evacuation center.

Though, according to both the mayor and the superintendent, no time has been set for its opening at presstime.

And the mayor and the superintendent also told Lindenhurst Patch Lindenhurst Schools will be closed on Monday.
