Sunrise Crash Victim Airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital
The Lindenhurst victim was seriously injured after striking a truck blocking traffic.

LINDENHURST, NY — A motorcyclist was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital on Friday for treatment after allegedly striking the attenuator attached to the rear of a 2014 Hino flatbed truck, according to the Suffolk County Police First Squad. Cops say John Krug, the operator of a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was heading westbound on Sunrise Highway, half a mile east of exit 37, when the crash occurred on June 24 at approximately 11:45 p.m.
Police say the truck was in the left lane blocking traffic for roadwork and that Krug, 27, of Lindenhurst, while seriously hurt, did not sustain any life-threatening injuries and the truck driver, Teofilo Vasquez-Hernandez, 62, of Bay Shore, was not injured.
Police impounded Krug’s motorcycle for a safety check, which has not been completed as of Saturday. Vasquez-Hernandez’s truck was inspected at the scene by officers from the Motor Carrier Safety Section and a summons was not issued against the vehicle.
