New Superintendent Search Officially Begins

New superintendent search opens as Western Suffolk BOCES is enlisted to help.

The search for a new superintendent of the Lindenhurst School District has officially off to a start.

The Lindenhurst Board of Education approved a measure during the November 20 Community Forum giving Western Suffolk BOCES $15,000 to conduct a search for a new superintendent.

Those funds, according to board president Donna Hochman, will go towards advertising in local newspapers and other areas to list the job for potential candidates to find.

The current superintendent, Richard Nathan, announced his retirement at the end of the school year during a school board meeting earlier this month. Nathan has served as the district's head since the 2009-2010 school year.

"Mr. Nathan has been a guiding force in our district for many years," Hochman said. "On behalf of the Board of Education and children of the district, we thank you for your years of service." The small crowd at the meeting gave a standing ovation to Nathan.

Nathan has worked for 46 years in education, 18 of those spent in the Lindenhurst School District.
