LONG ISLAND, NY — Voters in New York's 11th Assembly District will see two newcomers vie for the seat as they head to the polls on Nov. 5.

The candidates:

Kwani O'Pharrow, of West Babylon, is a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the New York Police Department. He is the founder of Cops & Kids, an organization focused on mentoring youth and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and young people. According to Suffolk County Dems, his platform is rooted in public safety, education, families, veterans, seniors and the environment.

He did not respond to Patch's questionnaire.

Cardinale, also a political newcomer, is a retired NYPD Lieutenant commander. He is a resident of Lindenhurst. According to his website, he plans to focus on education, healthcare, and public safety.

Communities in the 11th Assembly District include portions of Lindenhurst, Amityville, Bay Shore, and Deer Park.
