Overnight Sunrise Hwy. Lane Closures Begin April 2

Two East- and Westbound travel lanes are closing between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. from April 2 to 7 to perform bridge work on the Great Neck Road Bridge, says the NYSDOT.

Nighttime travel lane closures of New York Route 27/Sunrise Highway begin tonight, April 2, according to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).

"Two travel lanes closed in both the Eastbound and Westbound directions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County," said the NYSDOT in a release on Tuesday afternoon.

"One lane will remain open in each direction, but motorists should allow extra time or use alternative routes to avoid delays," the NYSDOT added.

The closures are expected to be in effect in the vicinity of the Great Neck Road Bridge over Sunrise Highway Tuesday (tonight), Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, April 7, weather permitting, the state agency said.

The closure of Sunrise Highway travel lanes is needed to perform bridge work on the Great Neck Road Bridge, according to the NYSDOT, who noted, "Emergency service providers and public officials have been notified of the travel lane closures and repair operations. Motorists are being warned in advance of these closures via portable electronic message signs."

As with most roadwork, the NYSDOT said this operation is weather dependent, and may be canceled, postponed or prolonged due to inclement weather.
