Preschool Scholarships Available for Lindy Kids
Applications are due May 10, according to Lindenhurst School District officials.
A limited number of scholarships is available for preschool-age children residing within the Lindenhurst School District.
According to school officials, Just Kids - located at the Kellum Street Elementary School - is offering limited scholarships for regular education children within the District to attend its half-day preschool program for three- and four-year-olds beginning this September.
If a child is receiving special education services, then he or she isn’t eligible for this particular scholarship, according to District officials.
There two preschool programs at Just Kids:
One for children who reach the age of four by December 1, 2013.
One for children who reach the age of three by December 1, 2013.
Parents must provide a birth certificate and proof of residency, noted District officials, and all students need a physical exam prior to beginning the preschool programs.
A lottery will be held to select the students to be offered scholarships, according to the District.
Classes will meet either at 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. (morning session) or 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (afternoon session). Parents must provide transportation.
Each class will consist of 18 students: Nine regular education and nine special education. One regular education teacher and one special education teacher will co-teach classes, with an aide in each classroom.
The program utilizes the Creative Curriculum, which emphasizes academic readiness skills and social skills, noted District officials.
Applications are due by Friday, May 10.
