'A Pure Inspiration': Lindy BOE Member Recognized As Community Leader
"In my own opinion, there are too few people in this world like Maryellen."

LINDENHURST, NY— Without community leaders, Lindenhurst wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.
Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.
This submission comes from Nanette Perso, a Lindenhurst reader who nominated Maryellen Cunningham.

How do you know the community leader?
Maryellen is on the school board. She has been in the PTA leadership throughout all of her children's lives. She has gone above and beyond, helping others is second nature to her. During Hurricane Sandy, Maryellen's was a victim herself and yet still found time to help others in need.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?
Maryellen has gone above and beyond to help the community. No matter what personal crisis she may have going on in her own life. She presently is going through something, and yet she still continues her work in the community and then some! She never stops!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?
I feel people should know that whether you are part of Maryellen's, family, friend, community or even a stranger, she will never hesitate to help each and every one of the people that become part of her life. In my own opinion, there are too few people in this world like Maryellen — a pure inspiration to all!!
