Residents Report Flooding throughout South Lindenhurst

Lindy residents say many of the streets South of Montauk Highway have flooded as a result of the Winter storm impacting the area since Wednesday.

As the day started on Thursday - the second day a Winter storm packing high winds, coastal flooding, rain and snow was taking aim at the area - Lindenhurst residents and readers of Patch were reporting widespread flooding down South.

This flooding added insult to injury in an area hit hard after Hurricane Sandy on October 29.

Here's what some of them who live South of Montauk Highway from the Village to Venetian Shores and the Venice have described overnight and as they awoke on Thursday morning on Patch's Facebook page, here and here, and Twitter feed, @LindyPatch:

Lisa Patto @LongIslandGrl: "As of 11 p.m. there was flooding by the canal n surrounding streets. I think the flooding will get worse at 3 a.m. with high tide. East Shore Roadd and the blocks by Venetian were flooded pretty badly. The water receded since the 5 p.m. high tide a little, but as of 11 p.m. there were blocks that were flooded just as badly as at 5 p.m."

Catherine Manning: "It's starting to snow. The roads, I hope, it won't be bad, and are starting to flood."

Tina Castora-Williams: "Shore Road by Harding Avenue is flooded, and so is Venetian."

David M Zito: "It's coming up at South Walnut, too."

Joanna Michelle: "Got to be more North of Montauk, no flooding. Same with Hurricane Sandy - if you were above Montauk, then you were mostly fine."

Ed N Tara White: "Flooding is awful right now South of Montauk. Both ends of my block under water. You can't drive through it. I'm on East Saltaire in the Venice."

Angela Vanleuvan Simpson: "Surf Street is totally under water! No school bus will be able to pick up kids today! Two feet of water and increasing!

Carol Rempe Grubel: "Down here in the West Venice the flooding is very bad in a few places. You cannot go down Lido. Please let's get the Town of Babylon to look at this problem and fix the storm drains. My husband just left for work with his hip waders on to walk to his car. He parked way down the block. Is this any way to live?"

Dawn Marie: "Arctic Street is totally under water - high flooding today."

Joe Cheperuk, Sr.: "We are the West side, and I see no water in the streets as of now."

Joan Ensulo: "Bayview Avenue West is flooding. Off Wellwood, Spring and Atlantic. Going to move my car. Lost Last one. Got nothing for it. Not this time."

Andrea Filiberto-Hyndman: "Venetian is flooded. No bus for the kids."

Suzy Foley DiPalermo: "Pacific and Arctic streets are flooded and no buses."

Nay N Tim Durnin: "Knoll isn't flooded."

Joe Chiarelli: "Shore Road is flooded. Wellwood Avenue North of Shore Road is okay."

Ilene Meister: "Very little by us."

@BeAppreciation: "6:22 a.m. and the first flake falls. Hoping for less than expected."

Bill Smith also posted the accompanying photo of the flooding this morning with this caption, "Good morning from South Eighth Street."

And Ray Fais, emergency manager for the Village, took a couple of photos (see one here in this article, and read more about it here) of the water coming up onto the shoreline at South Bay Street as the first high tide hit around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

As the Winter storm progresses and moves through the area, what are your experiencing? How's the flooding by you? Any wind damage? Snow?
