Family Says Lack of Heat, Space Heater to Blame for Lindy Fire


A family whose apartment was destroyed in a November 14 house fire that consumed a home on Hoffman Avenue.

Speaking to News 12 Long Island, resident Tamilynn Christianson claimed a space heater left on in the third-floor apartment above her's was to blame for the fire, left on due to a lack of heat in that space.

Main Firehouse Demolition Nearly Complete

The demolition of the Lindenhurst Fire Department Main House was nearly completed by around noon on Tuesday.

The building, which had been completed in 1923, had been closed in late September in anticipation of the demolition.

Nassau Detectives Charge Lindenhurst Man in Two Crimes

Following a two-month investigation, Nassau detectives in Woodbury's second precinct arrested a Lindenhurst man Tuesday in connection with two separate crimes committed in West Islip and Wantagh. 

Robert Marlow, 23 of 189 33rd St., Lindenhurst, surrendered to detectives early Tuesday morning. 

Village Board Approves Sandy Property Tax Relief

The Lindenhurst Village Board unanimously approved a new law that allows for tax assessment relief for properties hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy.

The new law, which only affects the previous year's taxes, allows the village to opt into New York State's Superstorm Sandy Assessment Relief Act.

School Board Approves State's Sandy Assessment Relief Act

The Lindenhurst School Board unanimously passed a tax break for residents that were affected by the wrath of Hurricane Sandy last October.

The measure, which came under the state's recently passed Sandy Assessment Relief Act, allows the board to offer a retroactive reduction in the assessment of a property for its owners who were impacted by the storm.
