School Daze! – “Readin' Writin' and Rithmetic”

Lindenhurst, NY- Chalkboards and penmanship make a return to Lindenhurst in the “schoolroom” at the Lindenhurst Historical House Museum throughout the Fall. - The Museum’s front room has been transformed into a one room school house complete with original desks, chalkboard, primers, workbooks and a school marm replete with lesson plans and a shiny red apple.....The Museum, a circa 1915 homestead located at 272 South Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst, proves the perfect backdrop for a look back at education in Lindenhurst, from its humble beginnings as a one room schoolhouse to today’s district containing 8 schools and over 5,500 students. Postcards, hall passes, banners and other memorabilia tell the story of education in Breslau and then Lindenhurst thru the 19th and 20th century. The Lindenhurst Historical Society has preserved the history of the Village of Lindenhurst and the greater Lindenhurst area since 1948. The Historical Society’s leadership and members celebrate the community’s rich and diverse history by meeting quarterly and by sponsoring celebrations and commemorative events throughout the year.
