Severe Thunderstorms, Flood Warning Issued For Suffolk County

Strong thunderstorms are expected to hit impact Suffolk County on Friday, the National Weather Service said.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Strong thunderstorms are expected to hit impact Suffolk County on Friday, the National Weather Service said.

The heavy rainfall will work through southwestern Connecticut, through Suffolk County.

At about 9:26 a.m. a Doppler radar tracked strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near New Milford to 6 miles south of Stratford to Lindenhurst with a movement was east at 30 mph.

A hazardous weather outlook was also issued for possible flash flooding.

The National Weather Service also issued a marine weather statement, warning, affecting Fire Island Inlet, Moriches Inlet, Montauk Point, Peconic and Gardiners Bays Long Island South Shore bays.

At 9:11 a.m., a Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located 8 nm southeast of Cold Spring Harbor, moving northeast at 30 knots.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. South wind 7 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 11 mph.

Sunday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 85.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 73.
