Suffolk Police Investigate Two Car Break-Ins Friday

Police say the two early-morning incidents on Nevada Street in Lindenhurst were most likely perpetrated by the same suspect.

Suffolk Police are looking into two car break-ins that occurred early Friday morning on Nevada Street in Lindenhurst.

According to Captain Kevin Degnan of the SCPD's First Precinct, the first incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. today.

"A complainant reported she got up to find a white male approximately 17 years old attempting to break into her car," Captain Degnan told Lindenhurst Patch on Friday afternoon.

"She asked him, 'What are you doing?' And he replied, 'I forgot something,' and then took off on his bicycle. He didn't take a anything from the vehicle," he continued.

A neighbor told Patch similar details via e-mail on Friday morning, and noted the incidents occurred on Nevada Street, off of Delaware Avenue.

"My neighbor awoke at 4 a.m. to someone in her vehicle with a flashlight. A few other neighbors noticed their glove boxes were opened. None of the cars were damaged. But apparently the suspect was male and seen leaving on a bicycle. The police were called. That's all we know for now, and all of us will be looking out," AnnaMarie Quattrochi wrote in her e-mail.

Captain Degnan said another car break-in was reported this afternoon in the same area in the same early-morning time frame as the car break-in at 4 a.m.

"This one occurred at 6:30 a.m. And the items taken were a flashlight, sunglasses and about $10 in cash," he said.

He said the same suspect was most likely involved in both incidents.

"More than likely it was the same person checking cars, and it was probably due to drugs," the captain noted.

Both incidents are currently under investigation by the First Precinct.
