Lindenhurst High School will open on Sunday as a temporary evacuation center.
Superintendent Richard Nathan told Lindenhurst Patch on Sunday morning the schools will not be open in the face of the storm.
"We're going to close the schools on Monday, but we're not sure about Tuesday yet," Nathan said.

It was made, the superintendent said, after speaking with Mayor Tom Brennan this morning, who told Lindenhurst Patch a mandatory evacuation for residents living south of Montauk Highway is now in effect. "The high school will be a temporary evacuation center, but we're not sure what time it'll open yet," Nathan said.
"It won't be like an American Red Cross shelter, and it's not a full-fledged center with beds and the like, but we'll try to provide some snacks and water," he added.

Asked if there were also flooding concerns on the District's part about Harding Avenue Elementary School, since that school is south of Montauk Highway, the superintendent said the District doesn't believe Harding will flood right now, and the school will be closed along with all of the others on Monday.
"But we're concerned about the storm surge right now. It seems somewhat dangerous," Nathan said.
He also said there's no decision yet about how Sandy might affect the high school's annual Safe Halloween event on Wednesday afternoon.
