Talk Back Poll: How Bad Are the Mosquitoes in Lindy?

This Summer has already provided Long Island with some tough hits: record-breaking heat, humid conditions more akin to Florida than New York and now the findings of West Nile virus in nearby West Babylon.

A mosquito sample found in West Babylon has tested positive for West Nile virus, the New York State Department of Health confirmed through the Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) on July 12.

A day later, officials six more samples had tested positive County-wide.

And back on June 20 a mosquito sample from nearby Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore also for WNV, according to the SCDHS.

Last year for the virus, and had been in the area at that time, but this year so far the virus hasn't been found in Lindy, nor has any spraying been announced or completed.

The closest spraying to Lindenhurst so far this Summer has been done on Fire Island.

Residents have been urged to take precautions and call the West Nile hotline the SCDHS has set up.
