Town Joins Global Girls Rights Movement

International Day of the Girl spotlights discrimination across the world.

The Town of Babylon has declared Friday as "Day of the Girl," jumping on a global campaign to end discrimination, gender stereotypes, child marriage and lack of education for young girls across the world.

The United Nations had officially established Friday as International Day of the Girl.

The Town of Babylon, along with the Babylon Village Girl Scouts and other organizations, said in the resolution passed during a recent town board meeting.

The town said it "supports increasing girls' participation in sports, science and math related
activities, high school graduation rate, and providing equal opportunities for all girls by speaking out against gender-based injustices."
