Town Transfers Land to Habitat for Humanity

The Town of Babylon transferred ownership of a small parcel of land in Wyandanch to the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity during a public meeting last Tuesday.

The parcel of land, designated at 54 North 15th Street, is relatively empty with no previous structures being built on it, according to real estate website Redfin.

The Town Board unanimously approved a measure transferring the ownership from the town itself to the Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk Housing Development Fund Company, Inc. for "the purpose of affordable housing."

The resolution came with a measure that if the property was to not be used for the intended use it was transferred for or if the new owners tried to transfer or sell the property, the ownership would immediately revert back to the Town of Babylon.

Habitat for Humanity has been in Suffolk County for over 25 years. According to their website, the organization is an independently operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. 

"Our mission is to work in partnership with thousands of Suffolk County volunteers and responsible, low income families of all races, religions, and creeds to '...build and renovate homes so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow into all that God intended,'" their statement reads.
