Verizon: Earlier Lindy Landline Trouble Due to Equipment Problem

Verizon officials tell Patch Tuesday morning's landline outage was the result of an equipment problem in the Lindenhurst office.

Reports of Verizon landline outages in Lindenhurst on Tuesday morning were due to an equipment problem, according to Verizon officials.

A Suffolk Police e-mail advisory sent at 8:25 a.m. on May 14 alerted residents that Verizon landlines were down in Lindenhurst, and directed anyone in this area who needed to make a 911 call to use a cell phone or another service.

An hour later, at 9:36 a.m., the SCPD issued an updated advisory that the landlines were up and running.

According to Verizon officials who spoke with Lindenhurst Patch later on Tuesday, "Some customers served by our Lindenhurst central office [on West Montauk Highway] had service interruption for landline voice services for almost two hours this morning. [It] was due to an equipment problem in the central office. Services were restored by 8 a.m."

No other details about the outage were available from Verizon or Suffolk Police.

Going forward, Verizon said customers experiencing trouble with their landlines could call 1-800-VERIZON.
