Village Begins December Food Drive With Island Harvest

Village government teams up with Island Harvest to give back after help received after Sandy last year.

The Village of Lindenhurst is kicking off a food drive along with Island Harvest through the end of the month to benefit those in need across Long Island.

The food drive, which began on December 9, will collect non-perishable food items to give to families in need across the island.

“Our community was the beneficiary of many generous people from across Long Island in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy," Mayor Thomas Brennan said in a statement. "This is our way of giving back.”

“I encourage Village residents to participate in this great cause," said village trustee Maryann Weckerle. "Any food you can donate will go a long way in providing meals for many this holiday season.”

The food drive, which will end on December 31, has three designated collection spots throughout the village: Lindenhurst Memorial Village Hall, Lindenhurst Memorial Library and the Rainbow Community Senior Center.

Village trustee Michael Lavorata said he was looking forward to the food drive.

"Especially during this time of year, performing an extra good deed will make a difference," he said.
