LINDENHURST, NY — The Village of Lindenhurst has new eco-friendly additions to its team.

Mayor Michael Lavorata announced on Wednesday that the Village has purchased two Chevy Bolt electric vehicles to add to its fleet.

The electric vehicles will be charged, in part, from the solar panels that were installed on the roof of Lindenhurst Village Hall.

"Utilizing this energy source to power our electric vehicles with renewable, green electricity reduces the cost of what the Village typically pays for gasoline," said Lavorata. "When gasoline is around $4.00 a gallon, electric vehicles have a tremendous savings to the Village."

Lavorata continued to say that electric cars provide other economic and environmental benefits, such as minimal maintenance costs, produce zero tailpipe emissions and reduce the level of carbon dioxide emissions when driving.
