Former Repair Shop Nearby Ordered Boarded Up

An old, vacant car repair shop on Wellwood Avenue and Route 109 on the North Lindenhurst-West Babylon border was ordered to be boarded up by the Babylon Town Board at last Tuesday's meeting.

The former Russ's Auto Sales, located at 1000 Wellwood Avenue in West Babylon, was vacated within the last year, leaving the brick-and-glass building to the elements. Large windows in the front office had been shattered or broken by projectiles and many of the sliding garage door's windows had also seen damage.

Village Removes Wellwood Avenue Bench After Complaints

The Village of Lindenhurst has removed a bench on North Wellwood Avenue across from Village Square Park after numerous complaints from residents about those who gathered at that specific sitting area.

Deputy mayor Kevin McCaffrey oversaw the removal on the morning of September 10 as the village's Department of Public Works carefully removed the bench from the brick-area of the sidewalk near the Brewhaus Pub, the General Store Smoke Shop and future Studio Trio.

Town Hosting Informational PTSD Workshops

The Town of Babylon will be hosting the Sean's Hope workshop, a series of free seminars to promote awareness and understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The seminar series will feature a guest speaker and a different topic of discussion to help educate friends and family members of those experience the effects of the disorder.

Suffolk Police Rescue Injured Swan in Santapogue Creek

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers helped to rescue an injured swan in West Babylon on Wednesday morning.

Police said a 911 caller reported a swan in Santapogue Creek with a fish hook stuck in its bill and a fishing line around its neck, preventing it from eating or defending itself.

Old Village Hall, Main Fire House Require Asbestos Removal

The moving of the Old Village Hall to its new home in Irmisch Park will be delayed for awhile, according to village officials, after asbestos in the building was found.

The building dates back nearly 100 years, when asbestos was used heavily in the construction of buildings, and it must be removed before the village can move the building into Irmisch Park, said administrator Shawn Cullinane.
