Police: Man Seriously Injured In Route 109 Crash


A Lindenhurst man was seriously injured in a one-car accident on Route 109 in West Babylon this morning, police said. 

Suffolk County Police said Richard Kabasa, 33, of Lindenhurst, was driving his 2004 Nissan at around 7:15 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle near Feustal Street. The Nissan struck a tree on the west side of Route 109 before coming to a stop.

Old Village Hall Relocation Process Begins


The excavation process for the relocation of the Old Village Hall began in Lindenhurst recently, as the nearly 100 year old building is prepped for a move roughly four streets away.

The former village hall, currently located at 215 South Wellwood Avenue, has been used as a village hall, police station and, most recently, a museum, but the building will take on a new role once again as workers began prepping it for the move last week – historical park building.

Lindenhurst Teacher Selected for Heartsaver Hero Award


Lindenhurst High School physical education teacher Diane Pollard was recently selected for the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver Hero Award, given in recognition of her participation in helping to save the life of a high school student.

The student fell off his chair in a science lab and Ms. Pollard, along with the school nurses and coach Richard Rogers, responded immediately. Ms. Pollard administered the automated external defibrillator (AED) and was nominated for the award for her heroic efforts.

Cops: Man Robbed Drug Store Before Being Hit on Sunrise Highway


Suffolk County Police said a 27-year-old Central Islip man was hit by an SUV after fleeing from the nearby Rite Aid store, where he was caught stealing hair products and other items.

After fleeing the store, he attempted to cross Sunrise Highway when he was hit by an SUV at around 4 p.m.

Oasis Deli & Subs Closes Down


Oasis Deli & Subs has shut its doors, according to multiple notes left on the building's windows and door by its owner.

The delicatessen, which had taken over the location previously operated as Black Forest Deli, had been a favorite of village residents for many years.
