A Blend of Coffee, Chords and Community at the Spoon

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee is hard to miss walking up to Spoon Coffeehouse on South Wellwood Avenue – with their welcoming door open, the sweet smell drifts along the sidewalk until you find yourself inside.

The cafe itself is surprisingly big, somehow hiding a bunch of its seating from the first look on the outside. The color scheme throughout feels like fall, with deep reds and oranges throughout, making the cafe feel warmer than perhaps the weather outside would have you think it is this time of year.

Cops: Lindy High School Coach Possessed Steroids

A Lindenhurst High School volleyball coach is facing charges of possessing anabolic steroids, according to Suffolk Police.

Suffolk County Police arrested Kevin Muscarello, 40, of Sayville on Sunday just after 11 a.m. near Vanderbilt Parkway and Commack Road in Commack according to published reports.

Burglaries Up Across Precinct Over Past Month

Residential and commercial burglaries climbed across the Town of Babylon in August, according to Suffolk County Police First Precinct officers.

Burglaries on the year were down 10 percent, according to Inspector Gerard Gigante, but saw a spike during August. Commercial burglaries across the precinct doubled from July to August to a total of 16 while residential burglaries climbed from 34 in July to a total of 36 in August.

Horsley Elected Presiding Officer of Suffolk Legislature

The Suffolk County Legislature unanimously elected Legislator Wayne Horsley (D–Babylon) to serve as the presiding officer for the remainder of the year on Tuesday. The vote comes nearly a month after the death of former Presiding Officer William Lindsay.

The position has been vacant since Lindsay, a 12-year member of the legislature and presiding officer since 2006, passed away on Sept. 11 after a long battle with a rare lung cancer.
