Wellwood Ave. Closure Enforced for Fallen NY Officer's Funeral

Village of Lindenhurst officials are advising residents there'll be significant traffic and parking congestion in and around the Lindenhurst Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday for the wake of oseph Pritchard, the NYPD officer and Lindenhurst High School graduate who was killed in a crash on the LIE on Monday.

Plus, parts of Wellwood Avenue will be closed on Friday morning due to the funeral services for Pritchard.

"We'll be shutting down Wellwood Avenue between Hoffman Avenue and Gates Avenue from approximately 9 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m.," said Mayor Tom Brennan.

A blessing will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Lindenhurst. Interment will follow at Breslau Cemetery on North Monroe Avenue in Lindenhurst.

No other roads will be shut down along the way to Breslau Cemetary, the mayor said.

He advised residents to stay away from Wellwood if they don't have to be in the Village on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as parking will be limited around the funeral home.

He's also expecting officers from Midtown South to be in Lindenhurst the next couple of days, paying their respects and attending the funeral.
