Read what your neighbors had to say. Do you agree?

Lindenhurst Patch recently asked readers what the best advice their fathers ever gave them, and what’s the best advice they ever gave to their children.

Here’s a look at what they had to say:

Pasquale: “I grew up with my dad telling me, ‘Son, you can do and be anything you set your mind to.’ Thank you, Dad.”

Valerie McKenna: “Growing up my father constantly told my sisters, brother and me, ‘Nobody owes anything to anyone.’ I didn’t fully understand what that meant until I became an adult. What it means is nobody owes you a living. If you want something, then work for it. Don’t expect others to give you something for nothing. My father is a retired New York City police officer. He worked three jobs until I was 21, and then he worked two jobs until his retirement. He’s a proud, admirable man, and I’m lucky to be his daughter. Thanks for the awesome childhood and upbringing!”

Denise Botiglione: “Don’t expect anyone to hand you anything in life. You have to work, and work hard for it and earn it. And it feels so much better when you earn it yourself instead of someone just handing it to you.”
