City Council Agenda for Aug. 6: Red Brick District Repairs, Police/Fire Physician Appointment

Other items include fire trucks purchase and capital bonds authorization.

The following is the agenda for the Long Beach City Council for Aug. 6, 2013. The meeting will be held at City Hall, at 1 W. Chester St., at 7 p.m.

1. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Amend the Current Agreement for Roadway Repairs to the Historic Brick Thoroughfares of West Penn Street.

Legislative Memo: The Office of Public Works has spoken with FEMA extensively on this matter and they have concurred with our determination and have approved the additional work and repairs. Funding is being provided through public assistance grant monies from FEMA

2. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase Four Fire Pumpers from the Sole Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: A result of Superstorm Sandy, the Fire Department suffered damage to four fire pumpers. We have been renting two since the storm as well as borrowing one from another fire department. The City is receiving approximately $185,000 from insurance claims for the damage to the vehicles and the City will be auctioning the damaged vehicles in the near future. Funding for this purchase is financed over a period of fifteen years. Funds are already identified in the Capital Improvement Program.

3. Resolution Confirming the Appointment of a Police and Fire Surgeon/City Physician for the City of Long Beach.

Legislative Memo: The City desires to appoint a new City physician as the previous physician was only available to perform services on a limited basis. This new physician is available seven days a week and his office is located in Long Beach, thereby allowing him to respond to emergencies and perform examinations in an expeditious manner.

4. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into an Agreement for Water/Sewer Testing at the Water Treatment Plant from the Sole Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: This is a standard annual contract that the City has always had in place for the testing of water and sewer at the Water Treatment Plant. The City has always been required by the New York State Dept. of Environment Conservation and the Nassau County Department of Health to perform said testing.

5. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase Snacks for the After School and Summer Programs from the Lowest Responsible Bidder.

Legislative Memo: This resolution gives the City the ability to purchase various snacks, including healthy options, for City run programs on an as needed basis at the lowest pricing available to the City.

6. Resolution Authorizing Publication for Hearing of an Ordinance Authorizing Various Capital Projects, in and for the City of Long Beach, Nassau County, New York, at an Estimated Cost of $5,932,175 and Authorizing the Issuance of $5,932,175 Bonds of Said City to Pay the Costs Thereof.

Legislative Memo: The City Council unanimously adopted the Capital Improvement Program on May 21, 2013. Bonding provides funding in order to move forward with various infrastructure projects throughout the City. This item is on for publication only.

7. Resolution Authorizing Publication for Hearing of an Ordinance to Amend the Code of Ordinances of the City of Long Beach Re: Building Code.

Legislative Memo: The City desires to increase the fines within multiple dwellings in excess of 25 units to a maximum amount of $1,000 for each day on which a violation exists. This item is on for publication only.
