LONG BEACH, NY. — East Elementary students took an unconventional trip to the supermarket this week, as a live performance from “Supermarket Science” gave students a show with an added lesson baked-in.

School district representatives called the assembly, “a high-energy STEM show that blends science, humor and hands-on learning into one thrilling performance.” According to its website, “Supermarket Science” is an assembly program aiming to teach kids that science is all around them, even in the supermarket. Using regular household items like chocolate syrup, diapers and spaghetti, the assembly teaches kids lessons about air pressure, chemical reactions, inertia, and potential and kinetic energy.

“The assembly captivated students with stunts, hilarious antics and a touch of magic,
keeping them fully engaged from start to finish,” District representatives said. “Through experiments using everyday grocery store items, the young audience explored the importance of observation, testing and inquiry, the essential tools for scientific discovery.”
