City Council Agenda June 18: Neighborhood Economic Resource Assessment Project

The following is the agenda for the Long Beach City Council meeting at City Hall, 1 W. Chester St., on June 18.

1. Resolution Granting Waiver of Off-Street Parking Requirements Re: Premises 891B West Beech Street (street floor), Long Beach, New York.

2. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase Three Paratransit ADA Compliant Low Floor Mini Buses from New York State Contract.

Legislative Memo: After Superstorm Sandy, one paratransit bus was completely destroyed and two others were compromised and are nearing the end of their useful life. 80% of funding is provided by Federal monies and 10% is provided by State monies. The Federal share may be increased to 90% in response to the storm. The City did budget for 10% of the cost in the 2013-2014 Capital Program, if necessary.

3. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Mass Transportation Capital Project Grant Agreement for a Term of Five (5) Years with the New York State Department of Transportation.

Legislative Memo: The State has dedicated $161,652.00 to the City for a new Trolley Bus.

4. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager Purchase Office Supplies Under Suffolk County Contract.

Legislative Memo: This resolution gives the City the ability to purchase office supplies on an as needed basis at the lowest pricing available to the City.

5. Resolution Accepting Grant Monies to Support a Neighborhood Economic Resource Assessment Project for Fiscal Year 2013-2014.

Legislative Memo: The City of Long Beach Office of Community Development and Hempstead Works will employ six Community Aides and one Supervisor to perform a block-by-block visual assessment of housing, health, employment and vacancy rates within the community.

Said NERA Project will be funded through a Department of Labor Grant.

6. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into a Contract for Engineering Services for the Rehabilitation of Grand Boulevard Between West Park Avenue and Beech Street.

Legislative Memo: This is the first step in the rehabilitation of Grand Boulevard. Funding for this is in the Capital Program.

7. Resolution Authorizing Publication for Hearing of an Ordinance to Amend the Code of Ordinances of the City of Long Beach
Re: Motor Vehicles and Traffic.

Legislative Memo: In order to enhance the safety and protection of our residents, we are creating a uniform city wide speed limit of 30 mph along Park Avenue and all Boulevards.

8. Resolution Authorizing Publication of a Notice of Public Hearing of an Application to Waive the Off-Street Parking Requirements for Premises: 879 West Beech Street (street floor), Long Beach, New York.
