The NYSEA Open is a surf contest that will be held at National Boulevard on Saturday morning starting at 8 a.m.

Pro surfers from Skudin Surf on Friday were out at Long Beach and Riverside boulevard beaches preparing the youth surfers for the competition, helping them with their heat strategies. The kids surf contest and skateboard contest will be held until 5 p.m., along with a concert of local bands from 3 to 11 p.m. The events are part of Surf Week in Long Beach.

"It's important for the kids while competing to focus on the next wave and not what they may have missed on the last maneuver," said Beth Skudin, the mother of the owners of Skudin Surf, Cliff and Will.
