Nassau County police are investigating a burglary at Long Beach High School early Tuesday morning.

When police officers arrived at the scene, the custodial staff advised them that a tall, black male, about 20 years old and wearing black pants and carry a black backpack, fled the building on foot in an unknown direction. After an investigation, detectives determined that the suspect entered the building through the rear gymnasium. No proceeds were taken.
“The perpetrator was chased by our first shift of custodians at around 4:45 a.m.,” David Weiss, superintendent of Long Beach School district, told Patch prior to the police completing their initial investigation.
A statement about the incident was posted on the school district’s website as additional information is made available from the investigation, Weiss added. But as of Wednesday, the letter was removed.
A parent with a child enrolled at the high school told Patch that the district sent out a robo-call to parents about the incident at 8 a.m., which noted that a “non-violent altercation” had occurred earlier in the morning.
Detectives request anyone with information about this incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
