Surf Week Returns to Long Beach

Surf Week will return to Long Beach for the fourth consecutive years July 17-21.

Presented by NYSEA Productions, the event offers various contests, charity events, parties, arts show and concerts.

The open surfing contest features both 48 professional and local surfers on National Boulevard beach will operate on a waiting period from July 17-20. They will vie for a $3,ooo purse, according to the Long Beach Herald.

Schedule of events

Wednesday, July 17

- Surf competition at National Boulevard beach, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (start of four-day waiting period).

- Surf for All, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: surf outing for visually impaired and blind children.

- Art show at Allegria Hotel’s L’Onda Lounge, 8 to 11 p.m., a benefit for Surf for All.

Thursday, July 18

- Surf competition at National Boulevard beach, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (second day of waiting period).

- Outing for Henry Viscardi, 1 to 3 p.m. at National Boulevard beach. Surf in honor of Connor Troy. Surf for All staff will take children for surf rides.

- Family night, 7 to 10 p.m. at the Long Beach Hotel ballroom. Includes dinner buffet, raffles, games, surfing movies and a sneak peak of NYsea’s “Beyond the Jetty.”

Friday, July 19

- Surf competition at National Boulevard beach, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (third day of waiting period).

- Party night, 9 p.m. at Warehouse 5 at Bridgeview Yacht Club. Must be 21 or older. Includes sneak peak of “Beyond the Jetty.”

Saturday, July 20

- Surf competition at National Boulevard beach, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (fourth day of waiting period).

- Kids surf contest, 9 a.m. at National Boulevard beach. Registration available online only, with two divisions for boys and girls 16 and under. A parents or legal guardian must sign a release to allow a child to compete. Child must be able to paddle into a wave.

- Kids skate contest, noon at National Boulevard beach. Registration available online only. Two divisions for boys and girls 17 and under. Parent or legal guardian must sign a release, and be present during the event. Participants must bring helmets, kneepads and elbow pads, and must be able to drop into a four-foot ramp.

- Concerts, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at National Boulevard beach. Performers include Groundswell, Jahstix and special guests. Full lineup to come.

- Skate contest, 5 p.m. signup, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. warm-up, 7:30 p.m. start at National Boulevard beach. Must be 18 or older; first 40 registrants will skate.

Sunday, July 21

- Makeup date for all outdoor events.

- Evening after-party at the Beach house.
