The 2024 James C. Metzger Boys Lacrosse MVP Awards
Presented to players from Bayport-Blue Point, Cold Spring Harbor, Farmingdale and Rockville Centre at Long Island Boys Championships.

The James C. Metzger Most Valuable Player Awards at the 2024 Long Island Boys Lacrosse Championships were presented following the four games held at East Islip High School (Class A and C) and Hofstra University (Class B and D) on Wednesday, May 29.
Farmingdale High School captured its second consecutive Long Island lacrosse crown with an 11-6 victory over Half Hollow Hills in the Class A game. Senior goalie James Caputo, with 10 saves, received the MVP award. This was the third prestigious Metzger lacrosse award received by Caputo, the first Nassau County high school player to collect all three honors. Less than one week ago, he received the 2024 James C. Metzger Leadership Award at the Nassau County championships. A few years ago, Caputo shared the James C. Metzger Most Valuable Player Award in the Rising Sophomores game of the 2021 Long Island Lacrosse Showcase.
South Side High School of Rockville Centre defeated East Islip High School 12-9 in the Class B game. South Side senior Michael Melkonian, winning 21 of 24 faceoffs, received the MVP award. Less than one week ago, Melkonian won one of eight James C. Metzger Leadership Awards at the Nassau County championships.

After relinquishing a 5-0 first quarter lead, Bayport-Blue Point High School held on to defeat Wantagh High School 9-7 in the Class C game. Traigh Tomassone, Bayport-Blue Point junior midfielder, scored three goals to capture the MVP award.
Cold Spring Harbor High School defeated Babylon High School 6-3 in the Class D game. Freshman goalie Matt Kammer, who helped steer the close game for CSH with five timely saves, received the MVP award.

Award Presenters
James C. Metzger: A three-sport athlete at Half Hollow Hills East in Dix Hills, he received the 1977 Lt. Ray Enners Award for outstanding Suffolk County lacrosse player when he scored 102 points and received All-American honors. An All-American lacrosse player at Hofstra University, Metzger is the founder and chairman of Whitmore – The Agency, an insurance and financial services firm in Garden City now known as Acrisure.
James Pannell: A two-time All-American and career points leader at Smithtown West High School, an All-American at the University of Virginia and a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star.
Vincent J. Sombrotto: Attended Chaminade High School in Mineola and was a Hofstra University All-American midfielder. He was named to the 1982 All-World Team and is a member of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
