Healthy Kids Day is Back at the Huntington YMCA
The Free Community Event Aims to Encourage Children to be Physically Active and Bring Families Together

The YMCA of Long Island announced today that the 30th Annual Healthy Kids Day will officially return to the Huntington YMCA on Saturday, April 30. The free community event will feature an assortment of healthy activities and excitement for the whole family including games, swim lessons, nutrition workshops, safety clinics and arts & crafts projects. This year’s festivities were made possible by the YMCA of Long Island’s local sponsor, BJ’s Wholesale Club, who recently opened in Commack. The events are open to the public so families throughout Long Island can enjoy an afternoon of fun, safe, supervised activities that celebrate healthy lifestyles.
“Healthy Kids Day is central to the YMCA’s mission of inspiring kids in our communities to live healthy and active lives,” said Anne Brigis, President and CEO of YMCA of Long Island. “Just 60 minutes of physical activity every day could help prevent serious health problems associated with obesity. Coupled with the social and emotional toll that the pandemic has taken on children and families throughout the region, it has never been more important to just get out and play and have fun. We are grateful to our sponsor, BJ’s Wholesale Club, for sponsoring Healthy Kids Day at Huntington this year.”
YMCAs across the country will be celebrating Healthy Kids Day, making it one of the largest single events dedicated to children’s health. Aside from indoor and outdoor activities, the Huntington YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day celebration will include live music, a bike-safety workshop and a Scholastic Book Fair to exercise children’s minds and encourage them to build a passion for reading. In addition, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to support local families in need.

“BJ’s Wholesale Club shares the YMCA of Long Island’s passion for bringing communities together and encouraging health and wellness in children,” said, Elizabeth Clark, Senior Communications Specialist at BJ’s Wholesale Club. “We are thrilled to support the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day in Huntington and be a part of an event that is so impactful to our neighbors.”
According to the CDC, regular physical activity can prevent serious health problems associated with being overweight or obese, such as diabetes and cancer. In addition to burning calories and keeping blood sugar levels balanced, regular physical activity makes our bones and muscles strong, builds strength, relieves stress, and improves sleep and overall mental health. The YMCA of Long Island will be holding Healthy Kids Day Celebrations at each of its four other YMCA branches, including East Hampton, Patchogue, Great South Bay and Glen Cove.
