Loving Long Island

Why I love living in Long Island

I was nervous about moving to Long Island but I'm now wondering what I was thinking as it's the best decision I've ever made.

Long Island is like having the best of every world stitched into one long, beautiful stretch of shoreline and small-town America. It can feel big enough that you feel anonymous while at the same time feeling like people know you. Wherever you are, after driving 15 minutes in any direction it feels like you're someone else. Long Island seems to have something for everyone.

The beaches on their own are amazing. They are perfect and they aren't the big glitzy beaches of California with the Pacific. This is the most nuanced Atlantic Ocean where the waves are just ideal. I wasn't expecting how much of a factor alone the water plays here. Live really revolves around it.

Then there’s the food. If you don't like the restaurants here, you won't like anything. They have every type of cuisine and the biggest issue is not putting on too much weight. If you're a sucker for Italian food like I am, the pasta, the cheeses and the baked goods are my waistline's nemesis. Still, we have to eat!

Every neighborhood has its own character and personality. I love driving without Waze and discovering new areas for myself. Being exposed to the architecture and stores. Looking at the houses and the way they're built. Then there are some really beautiful parks here.

Then if you need the buzz of a big city, New York City is right there. You can head off for the afternoon for some adventure and fun, and be back at night sleeping in your own bed.

Whether you're young or old, Long Island will be not just a place to live, but home. A place where you bring up your kids and they bring up their kids. If it's so great you will start to wonder why you didn't hear anything about it and then you will realize that there's a code. The code is a bit like the first rule of Fight Club in that people don't want to talk about it.

But I'm going to talk about it and share some of the incredible stories of this beautiful place. You should know about it!
