Northwell Promotes Trio Of Executives In Long Island Network
The promotions come two weeks after Dr. John D'Angelo was named CEO of Northwell.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Northwell Health announced three promotions in its senior leadership Wednesday. John Sendach took over as executive vice president and president of the company’s Central Market, Dr. Michael Gitman was named president of North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) in Manhasset, and Lenny Nartowicz was named president of Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ).
Sendach will fill the role vacated by Dr. John D’Angelo, whose tenure as CEO of Northwell began Oct. 1. As executive vice president of Northwell’s Central Market, Sendach will oversee both clinical and financial work at six hospitals and over 250 ambulatory care locations, which provide care to over 2.8 million patients across western Nassau County and parts of Queens.
Sendach previously served as president of NSUH, taking the helm in January 2020, and deputy market president of Northwell’s Central Market. He earned his master’s degree in public administration from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, and his bachelor’s degree in political science from Colgate University.

“North Shore University Hospital is the ultimate proving ground and I feel as though I’m well equipped for my new role after managing day-to-day operations at such a busy and important institution,” Sendach said in a news release. “I’ve worked with both Dr. Gitman and Mr. Nartowicz and expect they’ll bring a humanizing yet relentless approach to their new posts. They care deeply about providing the best outcomes for their patients and making their hospitals a great place to work.”
Gitman will assume the role of president of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset after serving in the same role at Long Island Jewish Medical Center since 2021. This marks a return to North Shore for the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse graduate, who was previously medical director there starting in 2014.

In the same news release, Gitman said he was “honored to return to North Shore University Hospital and grateful for the opportunity to serve a community that means so much to [him],” citing the role NSUH plays in many Long Islanders’ lives.
While Gitman returns to NSUH, Nartowicz will fill his shoes at LIJ, stepping up as president of the medical center. Nartowicz has previously served as the chief financial officer at NSUH, executive director of Amityville’s South Oaks Hospital, deputy executive director of Bay Shore’s South Shore University Hospital, and deputy president of Northwell Health’s Eastern Market. Nartowicz holds a bachelor’s degree from LIU-Post and an MBA from Hofstra.
