PSEG Announces Cost-Saving Events Across Long Island

The cost relief events will be held across the first two weeks of November.

UNIONDALE, NY. — PSEG Long Island announced a trio of events Monday that could help Long Islanders apply for State and Federal relief from their utility bills. They will take place Monday, Nov. 3, Thursday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 13.

The events, PSEG said, are designed to connect PSEG customers with assistance programs and resources including community organizations and service providers. The effort to provide relief comes just two months after Forbes reported that residential energy bills were up 10 percent across the country since January.

Among the programs that will be promoted are the Home Energy Assistance Program, a state funding initiative that offers benefits to eligible households based on income, household size, primary heating method and the presence of young children, people living with disabilities or seniors. A list of participating heating vendors through HEAP can be found here, while further information about the program is available here.

Also promoted will be Emergency HEAP, a subset of the State program that offers grant funding to low-and-middle-income households to keep the heat from being disconnected or the heat source from running out. That emergency funding program is currently scheduled to open Jan. 2, and customers can apply here.

Additionally, PSEG will be promoting its own Residential Energy Affordability Partnership (REAP) Program, which connects eligible PSEG customers with technicians who survey the electricity usage in their home and provide guidance and referrals on how to increase their household energy efficiency, and its Household Assistance Program. Households that received HEAP benefits last year are eligible for PSEG’s assistance program and can apply here. Applying customers will need to provide proof that they received HEAP benefits to enroll.

“While PSEG Long Island is not a provider of natural gas or heating oil, we know this fall has been a time of economic uncertainty for a lot of people, and we want all our customers to be able to keep their homes warm this winter,” PSEG Long Island Director of Revenue Operations Brigitte Wynn said in a news release. “We offer resources, tips and a variety of energy efficiency programs. There are also state programs that can help with heating costs. And if you are struggling to pay bills, we encourage you to please reach out to us to enroll in a deferred payment agreement and learn about available financial assistance programs. We’re here to help.”
