Salmon Recalled In NY Due To Potential Listeria Contamination
St. James Smokehouse has chosen to voluntarily recall 93 cases of the salmon because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria.

NEW YORK, NY — Smoked salmon sold in New York and several other states has been recalled due to potential Listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
St. James Smokehouse of Miami voluntarily recalled 93 cases of the salmon because it could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the FDA's announcement.
The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children and frail or elderly people, as well as others with weakened immune systems, the announcement said. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

If consumers have products matching the above description and lot number, they should dispose of them immediately or return the items to the store for a full refund, according to the announcement.
As of Friday, no illnesses had been reported, the announcement said. The recall was the result of a routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture that revealed the finished product contained the bacteria. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
