Lower East Side Fire Breaks Out, FDNY Says

A fire broke out in the first floor of a six-story building on Eldridge Street and Houston Street.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — Firefighters battled a blaze Monday afternoon in a Lower East Side building, according to fire officials.

Emergency responders arrived at a building on the corner of Eldridge Street and East Houston around 2:30 p.m. to find a fire within the building's first floor walls. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 3 p.m., according to fire officials.

The fire prompted an all-hands response from the FDNY and fire officials did not say if anybody was injured.

Correction: The fire did not occur in 249 Eldridge Street, which houses the club Rumpus Room, the club's owner told Patch. The address provided by the FDNY was incorrect. Patch regrets this error.
