LI Apartment Complex Gets Tentative Green Light

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — Plans to build an apartment complex in West Hempstead are moving forward.

Preliminary approval has been granted by the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency (IDA) to construct on the former site of Western Beef.

The $71.5 million project would hold 150 units on the 2.34-acre site of the one-time supermarket on Woodfield Road.

The developer is anticipating 90 one-bedroom apartments and 49 two-bedroom units. Ten percent of the units will be set aside for affordable housing.

"This project, if approved, will help to fulfill the overwhelming demand for rental
housing in the town and keep young professionals, millennials and empty nesters
here in our community," IDA CEO Fred Parola said in a statement.
