Rex Heuermann, 59, was charged on July 14 with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of sex workers Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello, whose remains were found along Ocean Parkway in 2010.

Since 2010, at least 11 sets of remains have been found, believed to be related to the Gilgo Beach killings. Police have searched for a serial killer ever since. At least four of the killings included strangulation, and two showed signs of blunt-force trauma. The cause of death remains inconclusive for some victims.

Heuermann has been the only person to be charged in relation to the killings.

Law enforcement searched Heuermann's Massapqeua Park home for 12 days, while dozens of neighbors watched, along with police and media, as investigators in protective suits gathered outside the front porch.

"The list of items is quite large," Suffolk County Ray Tierney said when he announced the search's conclusion.

He also said law enforcement found more than 200 guns in a "vault" like room in Heuermann's basement.

"Going out shooting, hunting, that was his passion,” Henriquez told Moriarty.

She recalled a time when Heuermann’s tracking skills "unnerved her", a release said.

When she booked a cruise vacation for her 40th birthday, Heuermann asked her where she was going.

"I’m going to be in the middle of the ocean, and you’re not going to find me in the middle of the ocean,” she recalls telling him. "And he said, ‘Oh yes, I can.’"

Henriquez didn’t think much of the comment until the second day of her trip.

"There was a white envelope under my door … It was a note from [Heuermann]. The note said, ‘I told you I could find you anywhere.’"

Other people Heuermann worked with have also come forward, sharing similar expereinces with the architect.

Bedford Hills interior designer Dominique Vidal said on TikTok that he would ask her about the Gilgo Beach serial killings.

"And he goes on to tell me, 'Yeah, that’s a serial killer that was never caught in my hometown, my neighborhood where I live," Vidal said on TikTok. "The guy killed like ten people and might still be out there.'"

The episode will air from 9 to 10 p.m. on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+.

This will be 48 HOURS' sixth edition of the investigation into the Gilgo Beach serial murders.
