Drug Dealer Injured Detective While Fleeing Arrest: Nassau Police
Police say an investigation into a fatal overdose led them to the man, who injured the officer as he fled.

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY — A Suffolk County man injured a police officer while fleeing arrest in Massapqua Park on Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
According to police, detectives were investigating a fatal overdose that killed a Merrick resident on April 10. Police say the investigation led them to Javonne Mimms, 30, of West Babylon.
Mimms was located at the Best Western Hotel at 5080 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park on Wednesday. While trying to arrest him, police say Mimms intentionally drove into a police car, injuring a detective's back. He fled the scene, striking another parked car, police said.

Police say Mimms was found a short time later on Hoffman Avenue in Lindenhurst and arrested. During his arrest, police say detectives found crack cocaine on Mimms.
The injured detective was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Mimms is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, second-degree assault, three counts of second-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of leaving the scene of an incident. He will be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police say Mimms was arrested on May 12 and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal sale of a controlled substance, but was released without bail.
