Unqua Students Embark On Two-Week Kindness Mission

The elementary schoolers three-upped the "12 days of Christmas" with their own challenge, the "15 days of kindness."

MASSAPEQUA, NY. — At a time of year when many are trying to spread cheer, Unqua elementary students took a slightly different approach, spreading kindness in a two-week initiative dubbed, "the 15 days of kindness."

For the two weeks leading up to December break, students received a daily kindness challenge, selected from a hallway display at the elementary school featuring 15 challenges decorated in a holiday and winter theme.

To complete the task, students needed to spread joy in any number of ways, whether by saying "thank you" to a staff member or leaving an encouraging note for a classmate.

“The students are very excited about this,” fifth grade teacher Megan Chalil, the architect of the 15 days of kindness, said. “This gives them a purpose to be kind. They’re enjoying coming to school every days and completing each good deed.”
