LONG ISLAND — Temperatures this week will stay above normal, but there will be rain for most of the week, too.

Temperatures will be in the 40s all week, according to the National Weather Service, with highs fluctuating from 42 up to 49 degrees during the week.

But there will also be a lot of rain during the week. Rain is likely Tuesday, and then will return Wednesday afternoon, along with a chance of sleet and turning to rain in the evening. Thursday also has a chance of rain.

Skies should clear by Friday, but there is a chance of rain and snow on Saturday.

Tuesday: Scattered showers, mainly between 4 and 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Tuesday Night: Scattered showers, mainly between 7 and 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 34. Light west wind becoming northwest 6 to 11 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Wednesday: A chance of rain and sleet between 1 and 4 p.m., then rain likely. Increasing clouds, with a high near 42. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Wednesday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 41 by 5 a.m. East wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: A 40 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Breezy.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20.
